dragojustine: (television)
Oh GOD. My life EXPLODED. I wanted to do so much writing and I can't and I wanted to do so much reading and I've had no time and I kind of HATE being this busy. I sort of fell into bed Saturday night, then got up and watched like four straight hours of TV today, because I am FRIED.

A big fat new season TV roundup )

So my TV lineup right now looks like: Wildly fannish about SGA and SPN. Likes Chuck, Pushing Daisies, and Dexter. Giving Sanctuary a chance. Watching Eureka every once in a while, when I have time. Sounds crazy, but the vast majority of those are short seasons and/or early seasons, and will be over by December (early January, in the case of Atlantis. Only Supernatural will go to spring).

SPN 4x03, in which my sentence structure deteriorates to Palin-esque levels from pure joy )

I may or may not have spent 45 minutes assembling a timeline for the 4x03 AU fic of Doom. There is NO WAY I would have time to write that and get it betad before next Thursday... but is there anybody who COULD beta it on Wednesday, if I do get it written?

I found a debate watch group to watch with last night. Yaay social interaction! With pretty Obama-voting boys. Also? I want that man to be president SO BADLY. Mental agility, clear intelligence, superb verbal skills, critical thinking, generosity and respect combined with firm and well-articulated differences of opinion grounded in fact! It's like night and day from Bush. I WANT this man to be president.

mild SPN 4x02 spoilers, short )

SGA 5x10 spoilers )

And, in conclusion: Daniel Jackson, I am so hot for you.
dragojustine: (Smug face)
Things Wot are making me ridiculously happy recently:

SPN (Kind of meta babblings. With 4x01 spoilers) )

SGA 5x09 )

The first issue of the OTW's academic journal. Good stuff there, especially the bit about Star Trek vidding- fascinating.

Life things making me happy )

Five ATA gene side-effects
For [livejournal.com profile] sg1_five_things, here. Look, I finally wrote a five-things that really is a list of five things, instead of a huge actual fic!
Jack/Daniel and John/Rodney, 650 words, R

Rodney can't prove a thing, but after digging through Jack O'Neill's records... )

Random side question: I am starting to see movement on various fandom Christmas/holiday exchanges, including the poll post at [livejournal.com profile] sg1_jubilee that basically NOBODY has answered. Is [livejournal.com profile] sg1_jubilee the main exchange? (If so, why have none of you voted over there?) Is there one for SGA? I can't find it! (Or better yet, one for gateverse in general?)
dragojustine: (Reading is sexy)
I've spent something like 12 hours in the car over the past four days, which explains all the tl;dr.

First, recs: )

I just reccd gen and femslash. Hold me.

I didn't feel the need to say anything about Whispers )

But, while we're rambling about the women in Whispers... )

Sometimes I really like writing Not!Fic like that. It's a whole lot easier than actual fic.

I kind of adore character meta that comes from different ways of organizing/categorizing characters, by whatever psychological classification you use. I could eat that type of meta up with a spoon.

Take, for example, Harry Potter Hogwarts houses - Torchwood, Dr Who, SPN, SGA, SG1 )

Or Myers-Briggs, for instance )

But I just read another categorization framework I found interesting )

So let's apply it to Jack and Daniel )

Why I find this interesting: )

Jesus, I will SHUT UP now.
dragojustine: (John/Rodney)
First, a flailingly fangirly rec: Clear Daylight, by [livejournal.com profile] nym777 (SGA John/Rodney NC-17)

I have no words for how gorgeous that is. The narrative voice is stunning, lyrical and poetic and full of unexpected connections and startling insights and gems of thought processes that are so perfect for the characters. She hits emotional notes of incredible complexity and intensity with an amazing, subtle touch. Most of all, though, there is this incredible sense of watching the birth of something so very fragile- this incredibly intimate connection between two men who are both so very bad at intimacy or connection, are simply too broken to possibly nurture this thing between them. The understated beauty and simplicity and fragility and emotional richness of the understanding they reach is just breathtaking.

I want to write like that when I grow up.

(Side note: I find myself drawn to Jack/Daniel angst because I am stunned by how inevitable and unshakable their bond seems to me; by how they are so inexorably tied together that absolutely no level of horribleness can possibly destroy that. And on the flip side, I am incredibly drawn to John/Rodney romance because of how beautifully unlikely and fragile and astonishing any possible connection between them seems to be. This is another way in which I love the intersections and overlaps and contrasts between these two pairings. I am truly in love with them as a pair of mirrors and parallels and complements, in a way I would never be for one of them alone. Even if Jack/Daniel does sort of have my heart and my muse right now)

Cut for nobody cares )
dragojustine: (Atlantis)
I kind of love Gmail's targeted advertising. It used to be convinced that all I ever wanted were shin splint cures and yarn (neither of which I have ever bought), but somehow over the last few months it shifted to exclusively pitching vanity presses (publish without an agent! See your novel in print!). Except for one persistent ad for the "O'Neill Captain Jack," which is apparently a very ugly shoe. You have NO IDEA how much that amuses me.

So, I watched through SGA 5x03, and then got turned off and didn't watch any more. I wasn't swearing off my show, just... enjoying writing a lot, and not brimming over with enthusiasm for it. But, since apparently The Shrine is the best episode in the history of everything (I am still unspoiled! I have no idea how I managed this), and [livejournal.com profile] miriad nudged me, I thought I should catch up.

SGA 5x03, the one where Satedans are actually Klingons )

SGA 5x04, the one where it turns out somebody on the SGA staff can actually write )

SGA 5x05, the one without Tori Higginson )

Overall, my feelings about SGA remain exactly the same: mountains and mountains of boudless love for the characters, very little for the show as show. A few fic wants, but no new bunnies (just the ones I was already nurturing: the Ronon/Keller, the John/Rodney/Radek, the Sam/Rodney, the alien POV. What is up with my non-McShep fic ideas in this fandom?) So the Shrine will be next, and hopefully I will be all caught up Friday, and maybe there will be some restored squee?
dragojustine: (crazy fangirl)
I am so freakin sad about the cancellation of SGA. I mean, I will miss those characters! But then again, SGA is pretty much the epitome of a "fic is better than the show" fandom, and I almost like SGA better the less of it I watch, so, you know...

Vid stuff, from VVC con reports I've seen )
dragojustine: (Atlantis)
SGA is a really very bad show, in way that make it drastically more fannishly appealing )

Look, that was like, part one of ten on all the thoughts I've been collecting, because I am the wordiest person I know. Tune in next week for "Civilian and Military, or Why I Ship Jack and Daniel (plus why I don't want to watch SG1 seasons 8-10, why the Space Monkey scene is the shippiest thing in the history of anything, and why exactly Menace is so deeply awful)" Look, for some reason I suddenly can't write fic, so this is what I'm gonna be doing for awhile instead, okay?
dragojustine: (Stargate)
Five Items in John Sheppard's Will, (comments 3-5) over at [profile] sg1_five_things . I'll probably archive it here in a bit- anybody know what the accepted polite waiting period for that is, anyway?

babbling about that fic, read the fic first (and you don't have to read this at all) )

SG1 rec: Say Rather Farewell by [personal profile] teand , a PG-13 Jack/Daniel with a great team vibe, fantastic Vala voice (*snerk*), and an ending for all of them that is awful and bittersweet and triumphant and glorious all at once.

Remember to bid on my leet beta skills at [profile] livelongnmarry .
dragojustine: (Government should fear the people)
So, have a happy strawberry-shortcake-and-fireworks day, y'all to whom it is relevant.

AND, READ THIS: Rodney McKay's Fourth of July, (McShep established relationship), because Rodney and Marines in a prank war is NEVER not awesome.
dragojustine: (plot bunnies)
There is claiming going on for the next round of [livejournal.com profile] rounds_of_kink. That community is a bad thing because their deadlines are so short that I can't ever claim a prompt because I know I can't finish anything that fast... but every time, I look at the prompts, and every time, I get attacked by psycho porn plot-bunnies!

Like these. )

I don't want to have SGA plot bunnies. I WANT to be obsessed with the SG1 amnesia story, and actually get it finished, and then do some SPN. But no, all the interesting prompts had to be SGA...

I can't help it. This is just what my mind does! *headdesk*
dragojustine: (Ronon)
Michael Shanks did a one-episode spot on Eureka (which is a cute show with great potential that actually SUCKS as SF, much to my great sadness). We hear his voice before we see him, and JESUS, his voice just kind of goes straight to the sex centers of my brain. (Which is good, because his dialog was idiotic. As so much of that show is. GAH, wasted potential) I want MORE of him so, so, so badly. I mean, just, GUH to the nth degree.

Spoilers for SGA 5x01. Really. Huge Spoilers. I mean it. This is your warning )
dragojustine: (writing)
Obviously, I am going to become one of those writers who will shove their WIPs at anybody who doesn't run away fast enough. I really really miss being in school, when I used to AIM with friends constantly and we would draft papers together and copy-paste paragraphs to each other and talk about our writing endlessly. I don't know anybody like that in fandom now.

These are the things I'm actively writing (as in, they're in my head ALL THE TIME and I'm pretty confident they'll get finished) )

And these are the ones I've started but am not working on right this minute and may or may not happen. )
