SPN and SGA and DANIEL JACKSON!

I found a debate watch group to watch with last night. Yaay social interaction! With pretty Obama-voting boys. Also? I want that man to be president SO BADLY. Mental agility, clear intelligence, superb verbal skills, critical thinking, generosity and respect combined with firm and well-articulated differences of opinion grounded in fact! It's like night and day from Bush. I WANT this man to be president.
I kind of think that the casting of Castiel is the best thing that's happened to this show since the casting of John.
I still say that if Dean turns out to be Special, I will hate hate hate. But so far this season as a whole looks pretty good. And if we keep getting Castiel being world-weary and ineffable and powerful and menacing by turns, and seeing him up in Dean's face with super-closeups of his lips? Well, that will make up for a lot.
SO MUCH LOVE for that SGA episode. I love how just knowing that Ronon is on the Daedalus makes me sure that everything will be okay- Ronon, you kick so much ass. Woolsey and Caldwell were... Woolsey and Caldwell. Zelenka! So much Zelenka love. John really doesn't like being in command-- with good reason, since Jack might KILL him for losing Daniel. And John and Rodney being basically psychic from half a galaxy away. It's not quite the same as Jack and Daniel communicating volumes just by saying each other's names, but it is a very closely related sort of zing, and I LOVE it.
And, of course, the real point: Daniel and Rodney!
I loved every minute of their interaction, starting with the very first time Daniel greets Rodney. Seriously, have you ever heard so much incredibly sarcastic, "my, aren't we going to have fun?" packed into one word?
And Rodney being competitive about everything! And their wonderful moment of genuine connection on the subject of civilian academic recognition- what a perfect point of connection for those two characters. Though I admit, I had always assumed (this is probably fanon) that the civilian consultants make rather more than the equivalent military personnel (ie, Daniel makes more than Jack, at least pre-promotion, and Rodney makes more than John).
And Daniel's smile when Rodney is all, "see, my boyfriend is smart!" That man redefines gorgeous. Though I do notice that MS has put on some padding up front. But his SMILE. His smile can still just light rooms.
Pretty much from the moment they woke up in the green-laser cell and Rodney gets shocked and says "you could have warned me!" and Daniel is all, "I could have, yes," I was pretty much endlessly in love with the two of them together. I could watch them snark at each other FOREVER. I want ENDLESS amounts of RodneyandDaniel snark. And, if possible, endless super-snarky Daniel/Rodney with angsty sublimated OTP. Or! Pining!John POV of DanielandRodney snark.
And, in conclusion: Daniel Jackson, I am so hot for you.

Date: 2008-09-28 12:23 am (UTC)I'm imagining a string of Rodney/Daniel one night stands, because Daniel knows it won't go anywhere and it's not tied up in so much emotional baggage (and Rodney likes getting laid).

Date: 2008-09-28 01:54 am (UTC)will have to look-n-pause for padding...it's hard to tell with him sometimes because this was filmed awfully close to his shirtless scenes in Burn Notice and while he was not 24-buff there, he was still awfully

Date: 2008-09-28 02:37 am (UTC)Daniel at his patronizing, antagonistic and arrogant best
And when you put it that way, *of course* he's fantastic with Rodney!

ALL military-influenced science fiction TV is unusually officer heavy. Always. Ever since Star Trek decided that the lowest-rank in the fleet was ensign (As for TOS, isn't yeoman generally a petty officer?). O'Brien is essentially the only NCO in the entire universe. No, really. Name another one. I dare you!
SG1 is actually better than most, though SGA then went back the other direction. (The new BSG gets a nod for this too) But... yes. Apparently once aliens get involved, all humans become officers. *sigh*

Date: 2008-09-28 02:42 am (UTC)I was always amused that Star Trek only has like six ranks! Military: ur doin it rong.

Date: 2008-09-28 03:04 am (UTC)But why the hell does the visual medium require everybody to be an officer?
(oh, look. My pet peeves! You have found them!)
