In which I am dorkily excited

Happy Hanukkah to all who celebrate!
Seriously. Every year around this time I start feeling about six years old. I have this MASSIVE urge to get out brightly colored construction paper and make one of those little countdown chains, y'know? Christmas is way more stressful as an adult than as a kid, but I'm not REALLY an adult yet, I'm still in the "kid generation" of the family and it's all awesome.
Christmas may be very odd this year- it will probably be the first time ever we don't spend the night at Grandma and Grandpa's (well, except for the cruise year, I guess) because of her medical issues, and that's freaking me out a little but my psychotically intense attachment to tradition doesn't get to trump her health so. I'm sure whatever we do will still be wonderful and ANYTHING involving family sure beats the hell out of LA and none of that really matters cause it's CHRISTMAS!
I've done about 75% of my holiday shopping. Seriously, I have only 4 more things to buy and I know what 3 of them are. I think I will manage a $350 Christmas budget, which sounds like a shitload of money to me but I know is actually pretty small for Christmas, especially when I realize I am getting presents for 10 people as well as my huge batches of cards.
I am craving proper Christmas cookies, but of course the only proper Christmas cookies are those made from Grandma's recipe and I don't have a mixer to make my own, so no proper Christmas cookies for me until I go home. Plus, when I get home, Mom and Constance and I will go see the Golden Compass, and that will be an adorable Girls' Night. EEE.
My first batch of cards went out, the Hanukkah/Yule/Winter Happiness batch. (Yes, I know today is VERY LATE for Hanukkah cards. I don't know how you people handle a holiday that can come so soon after Thanksgiving.) The Christmas batch goes out... tomorrow, I hope.
ONLY 16 MORE DAYS TILL I GO HOME FOR CHRISTMAS! (and 20 more days till Christmas, but the going-home countdown is more exciting)
Successful "write a little bit every day" days-in-a-row: Fail. I fell asleep at like 9:30 last night accidentally, because this boring job makes me so tired for no apparent reason.
Want to be amused?
I clipped my cat's claws. The two front sets, anyway, as the experience was rather too traumatic to do all four at once. It was... startlingly easy, considering that this cat draws blood from me regularly. He just squirmed a little, and objected in non-blood-drawing ways and then seemed to resign himself and I just pinched his little pads and out they popped and snip-snip-snip. I'm really quite proud of myself. For some reason sucessfully clipping a cat's claws feels like a huge achievement to me. Yaay me!

Date: 2007-12-06 07:31 pm (UTC)That's actually better than what happened to me the other day: I went to the Hallmark store to buy Hanukkah candles, and the check-out lady handed me my receipt and the little bag, and said, "Merry Christmas!"
*facepalm*
But actually, I'm really enjoying the holiday season too, in part because it's fun watching other people enjoy it so much. Thanks for the Hanukkah wishes!

Date: 2007-12-06 08:45 pm (UTC)It's good you enjoy the excitement despite all the rigamarole. Cause man, I celebrate Christmas and I still tend to hide from malls and such this time of year.
