Wow. Apparently babbling about cooking and domesticity really hits hot buttons on my flist. Kind of like my office supplies lust, I am like, "who knew?" I keep writing these things and then I end up feeling much less alone. General hugs at y'all.

The stunning [livejournal.com profile] eighth_horizon wrote The gayest gen story ever. It's glorious (SPN, NOT Sam/Dean).

TOMORROW. TOMORROW MY SHOW COMES BACK. I could capslock forever. All squee here is redundant. I won't actually get to see it till Friday, but still. I just rewatched the Dean-on-Dean scene in Dream a Little Dream of Me. Oh, Dean. *flails*

I just read the casting descriptions for SGU. I could die laughing. Those really could be fantastic characters in a fantastic show-- there's a shitload of potential there, and with SGA fans moving over I assume the fic will be good-- but obviously the actual show won't be any good. Plus, have you noticed all the emphasis on how beautiful everybody is? Just once, I would like to see a set of character descriptions of perfectly average-looking people.

Remember, writers: If the character is good enough, and the acting is good enough, people will eroticize him anyway. Just look at Rodney McKay!

Wait, wait- the next SG is going to be Teen Stargate: Voyager? Also, most of those characters (with the exception of the mysterious spoiled brat (...wtf is she doing on a spaceship??) and the field medic (who will no doubt be plucky and non-white, to emphasize her working-class background), I think) are basically "like that one guy on the other stargate, but different."

Man, that kinda makes me sad for people who are really into it. :( And me, because I'm kinda into it.

I KNOW. The men are all MANLY and the women are all GORGEOUS and all the interesting people are 20, and the one 40-year-old is obviously the Designated Old Guy. *eyeroll*

Oh, goodness. I didn't even make that connection. Now it's "safe, moral old man guides youth on their wacky misadventures through space."

Yes. The One Token Old Guy (who is ONLY FORTY) is married and firmly paternal.

*sighs* and yet there are still really good stories to be told here- they just won't tell them.

I was in pain earlier when I read those casting descriptions. UGH. I really don't know what to think about SGU. I do know I'm not impressed so far. I don't want another show about sexy 20yr olds -sorry powers that be. And they are going to have the only older male character be married?? Are they purposely trying to alienate a huge segment of their viewership?

But the Right Demographic doesn't watch shows about FORTY year olds! FORTY year olds are OLD. And insufficiently pretty.

(Joe Flannigan? Insufficiently pretty. Obviously).

lmao - RDA anyone? Or even switching gears to my other obsession, NCIS, shall we talk about Mark Harmon or Michael Weatherly?

Ohhhh I just had a scrumptious thought though - Jamie Bamber. But he's only 35 so he's too old for the hot young stud parts and too young to the be CO.

Obviously wayyyy too old

RDA was freakin' GORGEOUS all the way through SG1. In this new show, he'd be too old to even be The Old Guy, even the way he was in Season 1! *boggles at the stupidity*

I was never fond of Michael Weatherly, though of course he's objectively good looking. But Mark Harmon? SILVER FOX. And you don't have to talk to me about Jamie Bamber. No sir.

I mean... Patrick Stewart was the hottest thing in any given scene right through the end of Next Gen, right? And Supernatural just last year kicked off the utterly made-of-awesome Samantha Ferris for a couple 20-year-old badly-written chicks. I just... somewhere along the line, TPTB (LOTS of them, not just SF channel) decided that people don't want to watch anyone over 30, and it's just so STUPID and WRONG.

Alright, I've picked myself up off the floor. Seriously. Who do they think is going watch this all-new, all-young, all-cliched show? I actually laughed out loud at the character descriptions.
Euuw.
Yours
Old and insufficiently pretty (like Michael Shanks, seemingly)

Have TPTB SEEN the latest pics of Michael Shanks???????????

Obviously not. He just keeps on getting hotter the older he gets. :-)

Tell me about it! He was pretty damn good looking in the beginning, at the age of 30. Now, at 40, he's sex on a stick.

Same thing as someone like, for instance, Jensen Ackles- a damned cute twink at 20, genuinely good looking by 25, SCORCHING at 30, and by the time he's forty, any television set he appears on will spontaneously combust.

With the added advantage that as men like this get older, not only do they get hotter, but they become better actors. Really, what is the downside? Why are TPTB such idiots?
