The Boy came, and it was Good. The best thing about the Boy is that I can watch fannish things with him, and it often feels quite a lot like watching fannish things with fangirls. I certainly don't need any of the reflexive self-censorship, or for that matter the embarrassment cringe reaction, that so often comes from showing straight boys fannish things.

(The Boy loves due South far more than I do, and has limitless patience for my crush on Callum, and in fact watched Hard Core Logo with me and was really struck by it. Win)

And we went paddling, and hiking, and saw Cirque du Soleil (Also Win, of course. God, people doing physically improbable things to loud music while wearing feathers and rhinestones. LOVE)

Stayed up until 3 am last night reading Future Legend- one of the better post-apocalypses I've ever read.

And now I am swooning over all the incredible stuff coming out of Adam's tour. Do you remember when he said "tasteful" and we were all afraid he'd tone it down? Hah! He looks like he's having so much fun. So many lasers!

God, he's doing Ring of Fire- I take back everything bad I ever said about that song. It's so fucking hot.

You know, I have no particular love of Monte, but it looks like he and Adam have pretty incredible affection for each other, and it's absolutely lovely to see.

And oh Tommy. Tommy with Adam. And so much pretty Tommy on his own. The glitterbaby. The beautiful Libra. The ridiculous flirt. In some of these clips, he's not even playing fair. God, I want to pull his hair.

Those pictures are going to keep me so happy today.

I love RayK so much! I didn't much like the first two seasons of due South, because I don't really like buddy-cop and I didn't ship them, so it was... like, medium-good buddy cop with a little wackiness thrown in. But then we watched the third season and I am all FLAILY WITH JOY. Because it's totally self-conscious audacious surrealism and meta-textual experimentation with some buddy cop trappings and a smoking hot Callum. It's glorious. And, like I said, the Boy likes it even more than I do, so I'm pretty proud of my pimping ability.

(HCL is one of my all-time favorite movies, no joke)

I like the first two season s of DS okay, but I can't slash RayV. He reminds me so much of my (totally straight) Italian-American grandfather. BUT OMG CKR IS AMAZING! The amount of charisma he brings to the screen, and the range he got to play as RayK ... awesome. Plus Paul Gross deliberately got into the slashiness. 0.0

HCL is the most beautiful, fucked up, tragic love story ever. I made my sister watch it when she visited.

I think this version of Ring of Fire works better here than on Idol, too. For one thing, my brain's not trying to code it as country music the way it did before when Randy Travis was part of the presentation, and here it seems more languorous and sensual. Of course I haven't watched the version from Idol since I read your "born with glitter" post the first time, so I could also be completely off base. Only a month until concert-time!

This is completely off topic, but have you been reading classy_lawyers? I'm completely fascinated by it because I've never read a story presented this way, where the icons are part of the story and the nesting ability of comment threads is used as a storytelling device. It's an AU involving Jared, Jensen, and Danneel, and it's not tripping any of my squicks with RPS the way I kind of expected it to when I first looked at it.

I don't normally read RP boards- that way tends to lie drama, but I'm glad you're enjoying it.

Yeah, I like it so much better than the AI version too! I think maybe it's because the instrumentation is less entirely sitar and less exotic-vibe, so I can connect to it better as music? Plus, he's more confident on stage now (which is weird, because he already had BY FAR the best and most comfortable stage presence of all the AI people, so I wouldn't have thought there was any room to grow. But now it's just so obviously and easily where he lives. It's great to see).

I didn't realize there were such things as RP boards! I'm so clueless about fandom sometimes. *g* Are they for multiple people to participate? Because this one is a closed community where all three roles are played by two RPS authors, setissma and longsufferingly. I can see how there could be drama if everyone reading could contribute, and I think this only works for me because it's coming from authors I trust.

I just watched this again, and I see what you mean about him really owning the stage these days. This is his show, and his music and he's going to do it his way. And I wonder if some of his tension with it on AI was because he was working with a genre/mentor/expectation that he doesn't really connect with (even if the song wasn't very country by the time he got done with it!)

That seems likely. Even more likely, though, is that I think he was doing a lot of really careful- like, tightrope-walking careful- image management on AI. It was, after all, a mainstream popularity contest... especially in the earlier clips like Black or White and Ring of Fire and comparing it to what he does now, when he's free to really let go, I suspect he was keeping a very firm grip, like, "this far and no farther."

The concert version of RoF maybe isn't so much more shocking or over the top that the show version, but given that it's his own show on his own tour where he can do whatever the hell he likes and everyone in the audience came to see him be exactly who he wants to be- well, it certainly feels less fraught.
