Yes. Exactly. Reshaping canon nearer our hearts' desire is what fangirls do best (wait 'till you see my Vala...) And yeah: TPTB did a baaaaaaaaaaaad retcon, and even worse, an insulting one (but dude, it isn't as if they're professional writers or something like that) that made onscreen Cam one long series of WTF Moments (they're like Precious Moments only with brainbleach and a spork).
So we all fix it in various ways (duck please, I'm throwing out more aired canon...)
