re: the squee: I agree with you totally. It's shaping up to be a great season, with Sam/Jared successfully taking on interesting challenges, and Jensen/Dean at his usual best.
re: disappointments: I miss them being together too! The only complaint I have about the added chars so far is that they do tend to keep Sam and Dean apart.
re: thinky stuff: I've been reading some mythology books that keep referencing "enemy brothers" as an archetype, and the idea sort of pinged for me as a way of guessing where Sam and Dean might go eventually. Your Cain and Abel thoughts seem to confirm that. (Now if only I knew exactly what "enemy brothers" entails in world mythology....)
