So, I'm home. I will NOT be catching up on the flist, because, five days! So if there is anything I should see, please do point me at it.

Brought the whole road trip in just under $210, of which only about 15 was remotely frivolous. That's not counting the ridiculous expense of new tires.

Tues: Oklahoma! Corn not as high as elephant eye. In fact, no corn at all. Feel slighted.

Can't stop singing chicks and ducks and geese better scurry... Send help.

Oklahoma has a huge pair of billboards saying "the parking meter was invented in our great state." Point the first: You expect this to make people like you MORE? Point the second: If the invention of the parking meter is the best thing you can think of to brag about, is there maybe not a bigger problem going on?

[livejournal.com profile] wyomingnot is awesome and so is her house. And very good conversation. And also she bunnied me, so if you see Daniel/Jon chan coming from this corner, you know who to blame. Plus! Her couch is very very long. So long I couldn't reach the end even when I pointed my toes. That is astonishing to me.

Wed: Changing a tire is easier than I thought it was. However, it took three solid hours to find somebody to sell me a new tire. Had to drive SEVENTY MILES on that damn donut. Aren't they only rated for, like, 30?

Thurs: [livejournal.com profile] als_wonderland is amazing. Also, she is an intimidatingly good cook. And I was nervous about meeting her husband, but he is good conversation. I am only now, in retrospect, seeing the tweets she sent while I was there. Apparently while P and I were fixing the government, she could not get a word in edgewise. Heh. I would feel guilty, but I can't quite manage.

That said, I'm pretty relieved. Al sort of seemed too good to be true- sometimes when I meet somebody that amazing, I start to be afraid I was, you know, hallucinating them. The perils of having too many imaginary friends as a kid.

Fri: Bonus awesomeness- [livejournal.com profile] fakeymcfakerson for breakfast! She is a lot of fun. Then a drive to Hell, Michigan, which is exactly as kitschy as you would expect. There were two inches of snow on the ground. Al took a picture of me holding a snowball. I think it had a pretty good chance, personally.

Drove through Chicago, headed to meet [livejournal.com profile] bdblack. Was about an hour early because I forgot Michigan and Illinois are in different time zones, so I ended up surprising him at work, probably thereby convincing him I'm a scary stalker. Then followed him home and played Guitar Hero.

Sat: Back to Chicago. BD very patiently trailed around with me for three hours while I just kind of... soaked it up. That is a beautiful city. The water, the parkspace, the architecture, the sculpture... absolutely everything about it is breathtaking. I need to come back sometime during a normal workday (rather than a holiday weekend) and see how it feels, sometime when the normal day-to-day corners of the city are open. And when I have money, and can catch a show and some music. Anyway... yes.

Then a long evening at home- showed him The Prestige, lazed around a lot. It turns out that BD has pretty amazing hands. That was the best massage I've ever gotten for free (and better than at least one I've paid for).

He is so adorable and shy that I find myself wanting to say outrageous things to him just to watch him blush and stammer. Does this make me a bad person? I mean, I never claimed not to be a sadist.

Sun: 14 hours is TOO LONG to be in the car. And five hours is too long to spend in Oklahoma (it turns out that the 69 is rather more diagonal than I thought it was. I don't think it would have been possible for me to pick a route that involved more of that state. Bleh)

Bonus awesomeness- got off the freeway to take a loop through St. Louis. That's actually also a hell of a city. Inside that ring of smokestacks is a surprisingly nice, clean downtown core. What with the river and the bridges and the arch, it's... striking. I like.

All in all, I think I've spent more time this weekend just dozing and cuddling and generally soaking up warmth and comfort and skin contact than in the last year put together. Let's hope the glow lasts awhile.

Final mini-nano update: 17,000 words this November. I wrote 16 days of the 24 days I was at home, so that's kind of a sucky record. I made that 15,000 conservative goal (that's what an average of 500 words a day works out to), but totally missed the 20k or 25k I really wanted. But I'm really happy with what I wrote. The news to me is that I suck at writing what I SET OUT to write- I had three specific things I wanted to work on, and those are still untouched. Hmm. Now the trick is to keep up regular writing, because it makes me happy. *nod*
