minor ramble

dragojustineThe amount that I have NOT done in the last week is really pretty astonishing. I'm not sure what happened, actually. Got a lot of reading done, at least (not just fanfic, but book club books). My sleep schedule is going all whacked again, and I think next week I shall have to school myself back into routine, because I'm drifting towards that "14 hours of sleep unemployed depression" pole that I always have to watch out for. Got my first fall student, though!
I just went out for dinner at 10:30 pm. The Subway is closed. The other Subway is closed. The DQ is closed. The Whataburger is closed. The Waffle House is closed. Jesus, I thought anything with "waffle" or "pancake" in the name was REQUIRED to be open 24 hours! Seriously, is it impossible to get a cheap dinner after 10 pm anymore? I just don't even know what to do about that.
Okay, here's the deal. I have been reading through the Blue Moon award nominees, and there is a lot of really really good fic on that list. But there is also some downright badfic. And there are these repeated things that drive me batshit.
First of all, basic mechanics. I mean, honestly, people are nominating things for an award when the question seems to be not if but rather how consistently it uses the plural apostrophe? And please get a beta who recognizes a comma splice when she sees it, mmkay? Also, people, you don't Court Marshal someone in the Air Force. No, really, you don't. Ever. I just, the general level of editing is... I just... gah... *twitch*
But mostly, my gripes have to do with Sam Carter. Look, when I am Queen of Everything, there will be a law against fic where Sam is wildly homophobic. Okay, she finds out about Jack and Daniel, she can be surprised (of course), unsure about team dynamics (reasonably), hurt (understandably), even a baffled, befuddled, distressed, caught off-guard... but can we please stop making her the evil witch who responds with immediate and vehement disgust? THANK YOU.
While we're at it, let's pass a law against Sam Carter immediately breaking down and sobbing when Jack definitively rejects her, okay?
And, oh yes, can we all agree that Jack does NOT think of Carter is a nuisance who he wishes would stop mooning over him and wants to get rid of a quickly as humanely possible?
*headdesk*
Oh, shit. I just realized the outline for the amnesia fic does indeed have a scene of Sam crying over Jack. *cringe* Gonna have to do some re-thinking now, or risk being the hypocrite of the century, aren't I? But it's set right after Divide and Conquer and is dignified and in private... *helpless hands*
