Oh, Rodney, you horrible, awful, insulting, abrasive, brilliant, insufferable bastard, you are easily the most despicable character I've seen in years.
Ah, Rodney. I love him, I think, because he's so consistently inconsistent, and that feels realistic somehow. He's not the typical strong hero with a flaw here and there, but a deeply flawed human being with a hidden heroic streak. He has as many contradictions as most of the people I actually know, and that... it's fascinating and real.
there IS Sam/Rodney out there, right? Please?
Would you be interested in John/Rodney/Sam? Because I've read a few of those and really liked 'em. (And if you ever see any Rodney/Sam that works well, I'd be interested. It's not a pairing I've ever taken seriously--maybe b/c it's played for laughs on SGA--but it might be fun.)
It's, like, reason seven thousand, five hundred and twelve that I HAVE to watch that show)
Let me give you reason 7,513: I WILL SET YOU UP. OMG. I was in that fandom for about a year, and I have RECS. (Including a nice SG:1/M7 crossover. I kid you not.)
I read the whole episode as the pivotal turning point in the epic love story of Jack and Daniel.
*loves this interpretation* *needs to rewatch the series*
The show seems to think that that intellectual brilliance somehow qualifies Daniel for the ascension- similarly, that his ability to detach from his emotions helps.
It's true, and it plays out this way pretty consistently in SGA too. The Ancients are like the Vulcans, only without the dry sense of humor and regard for ethics. That detachment lets individuals ascend, but puts the rest of the galaxy into mortal danger. Which is kind of the point for them, I think. They're not interested so much in enlightment as in self-preservation.
Everybody should be required to watch M*A*S*H all the way through. THAT is how you swap out characters.
Mmm... M*A*S*H. Once they got into the swing of things, they did a really good job at character-building. (Margaret Houlihan may be my favorite female char ever.)
Thank you for the Youtube link! That was hilarious. Usually I'm creeped out whenever fans broch the subject of fic or slash with an actor, but he gave such a great answer. (Oh, that gay!Jack and !Daniel impression! *l*)
Yup, it's a party. I am going to need to give myself a massive kick in the pants soon, and try to break out of this. But it's... you know... easier, to just watch MacGyver do cool stuff on YouTube.
Sometimes Macguyver clips on Youtube are just called for. *nods* I'm sorry it been so bad lately, but don't be too hard on yourself. Something will change, and it'll get easier. *hugs*
