FIC! Oh God FIC and MORE FIC!

Oh god. I have been just WALLOWING in fanfic. Really. Since December 23rd I have done basically nothing but read and read and read and it's been phenomenally fabulous. There's tons of stuff I meant to write, and journal entries and reviews of stuff and yada, but I've just been gobbling up this fantastic fic like a starving woman.
Constance: The Harry Potter, Pan's Labyrinth, and Narnia recs are for you. If you read any of them and like them, say something to me instead of being all secretive. Cause you're like a ghost!
The rest of this stuff is mostly a list, for my own purposes. Cause all this Yuletide stuff has been rec'd EVERYWHERE already. Also, I feel pretty lame for not posting this list before authors were revealed, but it's just because I was too busy wallowing in joy!
First: my first actual fic was rec'd at
crack_imapala! That is like, the awesomest piece of awesomeness to ever happen to me. *awesome happy dance*
Second: I got gifts for
spn_holidays. Which I know is kind of the point, but I was a little surprised by it. And they are fantastic gifts, too. Especially cause my Voyeur!Sam request was written by possibly the hottest threesome writer on the planet,
thenyxie.
Anyway, my request for gen John fic: Cigarette Burns R for violence, awesome for flashbacks and lyrical prose.
And my request for Dean/OC, Voyeur!Sam: Bodies in Motion, NC-17 (oh so very)
The astounding
femmenerd wrote Through the Mirror (adult, Hermione/Ron) and an unknown author wrote such a beautiful blank (but smooth it), NC-17 Ginny/Harry.
It is strange, me finding both of these at pretty much the same time, because they are oddly similar in some ways. They're both canon-pairing time-travel-but-not, and they both involve this very particular meeting of two people with a close relationship, and yet one of those people has drastically more/different memories of their time together than the other, and they both involve sizzling hot sex which is a first time for one person but not for the other. The Ginny/Harry one bears plot-similarity to Groundhog Day (except better) and the Hermione/Ron one is... er... not bodyswap, exactly, but it has this FreakyFriday plot-thing (except, uh, different. I fail at summarizing without spoiling).
The best bodyswap in the entire universe: Keep our minds on the Sum of Each Other, by
lazy_daze, Sam/Dean NC-17.
The most painfully perceptive "other people find out about Sam/Dean" fic I've ever read: Three Blind Men and an Elephant by
dwarfankylosaur, PG-13, wherein John, Bobby, and Ellen all find out and it is STUNNING.
The most painful hooker-Dean fic ever: End Without Sound by
fryadvocate, rated R, Dean/OMCs.
The most non-painful J2 hookerfic ever: If at First You Don't Succeed, Suck Seed, by
balefully, NC-17 J2 with a basically un-damaged un-angsty hooker-Jensen, which should not be judged by its truly dreadful title.
The J2 chick-flick rom-com: Can't Point the Way to Your Heart by
belyste, NC-17 J2 AU with a pining Jensen and mostly-straight-and-oblivious Jared and a happy ending.
The most beautiful, lyrical, true-love J2 fic in the world: 'C'hange, or, How the Guitar Hero Gets his Bitch, J2, rated R. Jensen has cancer. It changes Jared. I... have no words for the beauty of this.
Brokeback Mountain A Man's God-given Right, a happy-bittersweet-heartbreaking alternate ending to the movie. R maybe for language, Ennis/Jack of course.
Chuck That Merry Still Goes Round a PG-rated Gen thing about Captain Awesome. Awesome, with his genuine kindness and actual liking for Chuck, is a huge part of why I love Chuck.
Mary Poppins Where the Air is Clear. Bert on the rooftops of London during the Blitz. Stunning. I never thought I'd read Mary Poppins fic. I just... didn't occur to me. But this made my breath catch in my throat with the perfection of it.
MASH Redeployment. BJ/Hawkeye, postwar. Rated R. Oh, the entirely-appropriate-for-the-characters ANGST!
Mythology- Greek and Roman Question: Why does Yuletide lump together "Mythology-Greek and Roman" but separate out "Homer- Iliad and Odyssey"? What earthly sense does that make, I ask you? See me re-lump them!
Ionic, Doric, Corinthian, Agony, the fantastically clever and funny and moving love story of Ares and Aphrodite.
The Bright Light of Shipwreck, the most stunning, gorgeous, fic I've read in... God. Athena. Opaque and distant and lyrical and incredibly involved in her mythology.
Survival, an interweaving of myth and humanity. Achilles/Patrokles, PG
Narnia I have a complicated relationship with Narnia, which involves all my HugeReligousIssues plus a healthy dollop of DislikeForAllegory, and two overriding Narnia obsessions (The Problem of Susan, which is a serious philosophical Issue for me, and the childrens' difficulty re-adjusting to the real world after Narnia, which would be FAR harder and more traumatic than the books ever give it credit for)
Queen of Morning, Susan as she should be written. I sobbed like a baby.
No One is Ever Told What Would Have Happened. A strange, magical fic about Lucy, with grief for Susan, among other things. I... don't understand it, and I hope the author will talk about it more when they can. I just know it's beautiful.
Cry for Yesterday. The grief and pain of readjusting to life as children after being kings and queens.
Sea Legs. Eustace, this time, and his difficulty readjusting. Plus Peter and Lucy and their grief at never returning to Narnia. A wonderful Kingly Peter.
Neverending Story As Many as Stars in the Sky. This is another "I never thought I'd read fic in this" fandom. This story fits the world of canon beautifully, and so perfectly captures that FEEL of... tale-telling. Fairy-tale distilled. Lots of fics in this yuletide have done that, and it leaves me aching and breathless with the beauty of an art form. I don't have any fairy-tale fandom stories here, but I will probably make another list with them.
Pan's Labyrinth
Given and Won, the story of Princess Moanna, as told by the Faun.
Dream's Labyrinth, the story of Ofelia's little brother. I could go on for pages, here, about what this says about types of fairy-tale archetypes, and the transition of this character from object to subject, and ideas about destiny and fate and free will and Choice with a capital C and... gah.
Shakespeare (Hamlet) Before the End of all things. The story of Hamlet and Ophelia is one of those fundamental stories- it never ends, just replays and replays with variations. This fic is incredibly... self-aware without descending into fourth-wall-breaking twee.
Slings & Arrows I am SO IN LOVE with this fandom.
The Midsummer Diaries a pre-series Maria POV. Oliver lusts after Darren. Maria and Anna bond. Actors are pigs. It's HILARIOUS. R rated for sure.
Extra-Proscenium, In Love With a Spear-Carrier. Ellen and Oliver's friendship, through five plays, including their mutual love/lust for Geoffrey. R.
These Hands Are Not More Like. The utterly hilarious Geoffrey/Ellen/Ghost!Oliver threesome you KNOW you were all thinking about. Except not. With banter!
Homing. This is Anna's story, post-season, with a fantastic happy ending for the whole crew and lots of happy tears on my part. And a pairing I never thought about, which I will not give away, but is het and makes me smile (not explicit).
Stardust O Be Some Other Name PG-13 slashy take on Captain Shakespeare's backstory. This character was played so silly in the movie, but has so much potential for serious story telling.
Watership Down Bright Moon, Who Goes Farther Still. Another "never thought I'd read" fandom. This is yet another story that distills the feel of oral tale-telling to its most moving essentials, and does so while weaving into the startlingly rich rabbit mythology of canon. The story itself moved me to tears.
The scary thing? This rec list is approximately a FIFTH of the fics I've read in the last week. And I have a list of 150 more Yuletide stories and 14 SPN fics to read. I told you I've been wallowing! It's been so fun.
