SPN recs and such

All SPN!
I feel a long, long, long geeky meta-post about SPN coming on. For now: I liked the episode. I love this show even though I do have serious issues with it and wish it was better. I think there are interesting things to think about here, though I suspect that some of the things I want, I will not get. Was that vauge enough to leave out of cut-tags? I will meta later, and I really hope people won't be all discussed-out and will actually talk at me.
Jensen did an interview with TV Guide (and Part 2). Things:
Ackles:I do like action a lot. The other night there was a big stunt and they brought in my stunt double. When I saw what the stunt was, I was like, "No, no, no. I'm doing this." They'll usually let me do it, unless it's big stuff like a wire-jump off a building — that could be a catastrophe. But [costar] Jared [Padalecki] and I would much rather have a day of action and stunts than a day of the two brothers sitting in a motel room pouring their hearts out. [Laughs]
TV Guide: You realize you have a lot of female viewers because of that emotional stuff, right?
Ackles: This is true. "It's a necessary evil," we like to say.
Aw, man. The emotional heart of our show- the dynamic that, frankly, makes it even remotely worth watching- is a necessary evil. Boo, Jensen. You just fail. (Though the image of them loving the stunts is pretty cute)
Asked about golf:
Ackles: Well, I definitely play a lot more than he does. In fact, I introduced him to it just a few months ago. I got him out there and I bought the biggest box of balls you could possibly find and he ended up losing every one of them, which was funny. He might beat me at hoops, because he's taller than me.
See, everybody thinks it's so cute they play golf, but here's the thing: Golf's not sexy. Never has been, never will be. Jared, Jensen, Milo, and Sendhil could play a naked 18 holes with blowjobs inbetween and it still wouldn't be sexy. But J2 playing basketball? Now that's sexy!
Asked about classic cars:
Ackles:But after driving the Impala around so much, I'm getting the feeling of that good old muscle car, so I'm kind of in the market right now. I'm going to try to write into my contract to get one of these Impalas, so when the show's over, maybe I'll scoop it on up and get it styled.
So much love for this. Ficcers, start your engines!
fannish5 posted their Friday 5: What are the 5 creepiest or most frightening pieces of fan fiction you have ever read?
Ooh, recs! It's kind of funny, because for all that I obsessively collect Evil!Sam and apocafics, I don't actually have that many seriously creepy fics I love. Most of them are sad, or disturbing, or distressing, or horrible, or angsty, or wistful, or miserable... but creepy? Well, let's try.
Familiar Admonishments by
teand. This is that disturbing, difficult, truthful John/Dean fic that I think maybe everyone should be required to read. I do not know about creepy, but I find the ending chilling... Hard R.
A Darker Shade of Black by
sardonicsmiley. This is a highly, highly creepy AU. Dean/Sam, R.
You Will Not Die, it's Not Poison by
deaconfic. The slow build-up here before you figure out what's going on I think qualifies this as creepy. Gen. PG13 maybe?
The Thousand Ways to Bleed by
halcyon_shift. This was written for Yuletide 2005, and can we just take a minute to laugh at the idea of SPN being considered a rare fandom? OK. This is highly original, deeply creepy, and frankly terrifying. Gen, R.
Long Past Time, though this is really a rec for the entire death-fic oeurve of
kroki_refur. She is the single best writer of SPN angst and deathfic on the internet, people. They range from creepy to sad to wistful to beautiful to hilarious. It's amazing. This one is futurefic, Gen, G. I could also rec Last Man Standing, Gen, PG13, or Pour Away the Ocean, a Save-Dean Gen PG13. All of them creep me the hell out, though Long Past Time is also sort of peaceful and wistful too.
Man, considering that SPN is all about the horror, I kind of fail at conventionally creepy fic recs. Help?

Oh Those bouncing balls....
Date: 2008-05-14 05:07 am (UTC)H*ll yes, watching golf isn't sexy.... possibly because no man has a natural club long enough to hit the ball... But watching nekkid men run around a basketball court.... Count me in
ps. Thanks for the recs as well :)
