Current active fandoms with some excellent fic but canon is YMMV: BBC Sherlock, Teen Wolf, X-Men First Class
Two DW people worth checking out re: fannish stuff: copperbadge (Avengers, comics, Radio Free Monday, etc.) & lettered ('Responsible Science' series, amazing meta).
One comm to rule them all worth subscribing to to get a better sense yourself where the action's currently at on Dreamwidth: metanews ("a panfandom meta newsletter").
And for good measure, some fics you may have missed if you've been out of the loop for a while that I can't recommend highly enough:
