Randomness

Dad was working me 14 hours a day because that's how he is (not mean, just oblivious to the way normal people work- or rather, DON'T, sometimes). Now that he is gone maybe I am back? But I have SO MUCH TO DO!

I really, really, really want to do some writing now that he's gone. I haven't written anything, even a little bit, since mid-January. There is only that problem of "no sense of motivation or discipline" personality problem to work with.

I just paid too much for a gym membership I will use too little (see the above "no sense of motivation or discipline")

Who declared today "Firefly is sexist! Dworkin Dworkin!" day? (uh, try here and here) Srsly, it's everywhere. Dwarkin-style feminism makes me think very hard, but I can come up with nothing intelligent or articulate to say past "I believe you are wrong." Or, maybe, "I feel like I have the agency to give consent, raised in the patriarchy or not," but that is just the same thing with more words, not an actual intellectual counter argument. So.

I completely missed the last round of Sweet Charity! I vaguely thought it was coming up and I would bid, and then when I checked it was over. *sad*

I will make a resolution here in public for all to see: I promise some kind of fic by Monday, and something else ready for beta by next week. Maybe if I say it out loud, it will magically be true.

Not being well-read in Dworkinism, I kind of look at it like the Matrix. One of those things where even if what she's saying is true, and we're living in a men-only world with virtually no opportunity for female advancement, then knowing that is only a big downer, has little effect upon the way we should live our lives (unless you go totally counterculture), so why even bother giving it any credence? Well, except trotting it out at parties to make yourself seem well-read.

Huh. That's interesting. I mean, how WOULD it change anything? I guess if you believed it, you'd never have sex with anyone but a woman. And how much would THAT suck? (Er, no offense to anybody, obviously)

But I never underestimate the value of seeming well-read at parties either.

I haven't seen Firefly (though Serenity rocked!), and I didn't want to read much of that post, if only to avoid spoilers. (Something tells me there's a lost weekend in my future, involving DVDs and junk food.) So I only read part of her reaction to the first ep. Stopped reading when it became clear she had no understanding of ironic humor at all (the masking tape thing wtf?). But the comments were entertaining, in a fandom_wank sort of way. :D

Good luck this weekend! Can't wait to see what you write!

Yeah. No understanding of ironic humor, no ability to read emotional relationships beneath literal words, and no ability to separate out "Mal is sexist" (which he may be- certainly often disrespectful) from "the show is sexist." (that is a pet peeve of mine.)

But you really should get on that DVD weekend- Firefly was all kinds of fun!
