SGA
Somewhere around lj (I wish I remembered where) I saw an icon that read "peppered with actual" across the top and "on top" on the bottom. In between? Yup, a picture of John.
I love fandom.
So everybody saw the eye-roll inducing blog post, right?
prehistoric_sea did a better takedown of it than I could have, regarding authorial intent and generally LOLtasic hubris. I commented at her thusly:

Haha. Yes. You know what I adore about Joe Malozzi? It's that he thinks he deserves brownie points. Seriously!
He goes, "You know that fabulous recurring female character I introduced only to kill off immediately in the interest of dramatic tension? She was a dead lesbian! Except we didn't quite have time to bother with that and anyway we didn't want it to interfere with McKay/Keller, but I totally thought about doing it!" and expects us to applaud. The level of fail there is just... *facepalm*
And then he says, "There is totally a gay character on SGA! I've been really cool and progressive and thinking of him as gay all along, but I'm not going to tell you who it is because that would be rubbing people's faces in it and might bother some people so this character gets to live a lonely sexless closeted life forever until the show is off the air and getting my progressive brownie points can't hurt ratings. But one day, maybe, if you ask nicely, I'll tell you!"
And then he wants brownie points. *vague handwave* At a certain point, his fail stops being infuriating and starts being just really damn funny.
Also, a male character, "recurring for several years," with absolutely no canonical romantic tension, who Jason Momoa thought would make a better pair for Ronon than Keller would? If it's not Lorne, I'll eat my hat.
Not that I care.
Memo to Joe Malozzi: We really, really, really do not care what you think.
ETA: Am I the only one with a desperate, trollish, utterly unworthy desire to comment endlessly on his blog until I provoke him into accusing me of, you know, interrogating the text from the wrong perspective? You know he would.
Oh, Joe. *pets him* You're a little dense. That's okay.

I am a fixer. The more I can bitch about my show, the more I like it.
Hi to you too!

JM? == FAIL SO HARD.
The whole McKeller justification was complete bollocks, also. Fortunately at least ten people pointed out that One beer after Trio --> Love confession in Shrine makes for WTFery. As well as people saying, hey, if you have a gay character, then say you have a gay character.
It's hopeless, though. SG PTB are irredeemably clueless, privileged, white male assholes. (And I am fully on board with you trolling JM's blog until the ends of time!)

It's just... oh, the stupid. It would burn, except I'm desensitized, so it just amuses :)

Have a rant.

If I started trolling his crappy blog, I would never end.

Remember: No matter how bizarrely idiotic and clueless writers and creators are, once they've made these amazing characters, they can't take that away. They can't touch us here in fandom. *nods*
But yeah, he kind of is an ass.

I love the fannish response, which shows that even if the writers want to put forth a simplistic, narrow view of the show, the fans will find depth in the characters and in the 'verse.
Is it okay if I friend you to keep up with the meta?
