SGA Santa recs!
I adore fic exchanges.
The problem is that fics get posted in a flood, and I find (IMO) that they seem to get less feedback than they would have if they were posted outside the exchange. So I try really hard to do recs for exchanges.
I am so not fully caught up on
sga_santa, and I won't be reading any more until after the Yuletide rush subsides (OMG you people have I said how much I love Yuletide? Highlight of my year), but here's a first-pass rec list! These are recs from among the shorter fics posted in the first half of the exchange. There are tons more I can't wait to read, after the New Year.
First, my present! Some lovely soul wrote me Winterized, wherein there is an Ancient gizmo and Radek saves the day. Yaay!
Recs: McShep division
Secondhand Lions. This is gorgeous. It's plotty, and the plot unfolds and reveals just perfectly. I am just... *hands* Wow. Jeannie is awesome here too.
A Truth for a Truth. John is in solitary confinement. It doesn't go well for him. The way his slow psychological unraveling happens here is just excellently done.
Where we are in the universe. This is the rare Vegas fixit that does not seem cheap (I tend not to like Vegas fixits). This one is just difficult enough- John Sheppard, in his grand tradition of creating all his own problems, makes it just difficult enough- to feel earned.
Through to Sunrise. AU fusion with the show Castle, but no Castle knowledge is needed. It's just a very sweet little AU ficlet, but it's got that great quality where, without getting bogged down in expository infodumping, it feels like a little window into a much bigger AU universe.
Recs: Other
All the Hot Teams are Doing It. This is PERFECT meta. Yaay for fandom laughing at itself! Absolutely hilarious.
Snow Had Fallen Snow on Snow. The Ronon voice here is gorgeous. This is exactly what the inside of Ronon's head sounds like, the sharp observation combined with the sort of "whatever, earth people are weird" resignation, the traces of bittersweet and neat side-stepping of the past, the wisdom in how to deal with John. It's laugh-out-loud funny, Teyla is pretty damn cool too, and it makes a Not My Pairing (Ronon/John) work for me. But mostly: This is Ronon's voice. This.
All wound up and no place to go. Deeply adorable Rodney-centric gen.
And anybody who is not
hilarytamar and guesses my
sga_santa fic totally gets a drabble.
